Medical Specialty
What is Anatomic Pathology?
Anatomic pathology is the medical specialty that studies the causes and effects of diseases through the analysis of tissues, cells, and organs. It is the bridge between clinical practice and definitive diagnosis: every biopsy, every cytology test, and every molecular study we perform enables the treating physician to confirm diagnoses, define treatments, and save lives.
Histopathology
Microscopic examination of tissues obtained through biopsies to diagnose diseases, including cancer and inflammatory conditions.
Cytology
Analysis of individual cells or cell groups, such as the Papanicolaou test, for early detection of pathologies.
Immunohistochemistry
Advanced techniques that use antibodies to identify specific proteins in tissues, key to classifying tumors.

132 Years of History, Legacy and Presence
A unique compendium that traces the history and development of anatomic pathology as a medical specialty in Chile. Written by Dr. Arturo Espinoza N. and Amanda Fuller B., this 643-page work documents the contributions of Chilean and foreign pathologists who shaped the discipline in the country.
Published in 2015 with the support of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Chile, the book was presented at the Chilean Medical Association with the attendance of distinguished figures in national medicine. Six chapters trace the historical background and the challenges faced by those who dedicated their lives to this specialty.
